Mike I was on AT&T Yahoo DSL before I moved and I checked were i moved there was DSL from verizon but after I moved and got settled all the slots got filled up and Verizon sees the area were I live not profitable because the area is what called rural development area and companys don't see that profitable so rural areas only have Dial-up or satellite internet and for a very few area WiMAX which have limits, Dial-up its limit is 5KB/s max and very expensive with some phone companies because dial-up triggers a toll charge, Satellite internet is very expensive like for example from one company around $80 for 1.5Mbps down stream 17GB bandwidth cap per month and forget it during a big storm were you will get slow to no connection and you can't do ANY real time stuff like Video Games. WiMAX is not available in ALL areas and that is also VERY expensive and a bandwidth limit.
But from what I heard Sprint 4G will be in my area sometime this year but until then I am on NetZero $10 Dial-up which maxes out at 46.6Kbps
You don't have to tell me... I never had DSL or cable available in this area. Luckily there's a local number for dial-up so all we need is a landline and the ISP which I also use NetZero, however it maxes out at only 36.0 Kbps! However I've used my ISP to connect to a landline in a larger city, and I was getting the max. connection speed 56.6Kbps.... so it's gotta be these old, rural phone lines.
It's definitely strange that the nearest town that has DSL available is only 6.5 miles away but unavailable here... lol.
