I have a common set of html code that I'd like to define as a footer file.

I've read somewhere how SSI can be used to do this.  I've followed the examples, but I don't think it's working.

Now, I wonder if it's because SSI may not be implemented on my site.  What are the steps that need to be done to activate SSI (remember, I'm not technical).  I've read about Hack bits, .shtml files, etc. - but I don't know where the hack bit information is supposed to go, and whether the Elefante .htaccess file creator handles SSI configuration.

Can someone please help.

Thank you.

P.S.  I don't want to rename my files to .shtml, so I'd like to pursue the Hack bit solution if possible.

Create .shtml file and insert the SSI directive with the below syntax :

<!--#element attribute=value attribute=value ... -->

for example :
<!--#include FILE="b.inc" -->
OR
<!--#include virtual="b.inc" -->

Using a .htaccess file you could use

Code:
auto_append_file

and

Code:
auto_prepend_file
