We had a crazy spammer today. Ofcouse after he had made his initial post he was free to post away without anti-spam protection.

Profile was here: http://forum.50webs.com/profile.php?mode=viewprofile&u=32150

Almost every section looked like this.

The spammer is always online still. Perhaps we should block the account, same some server resources

I am surprised that Gareth (antimatter) has not made a snobby comment about 50Webs in this thread aswell.

May be if you can install "Textual Confirmation  mod" in this forum, the Spam bots wont be able to register and in that way, if they cant register, they cant post.

I have used the same mod in my forum, and haven't seen any spam bots registering and I am pretty happy with it.
All it does is adds a question to register page like what is 4+6 or you can add your own, if they answer it correctly, they can register, otherwise they wont be able to register.

Thats the same anti-spam script Monkey put on 3doms.com

So far it works but we've received lots of complaints because people don't know their maths lol

I would like to just say that although this method can help a bit its not bullet proof.

You are probably okay if its for a one off website though.

I demonstrated how easily it would be to create a bot to work these things out (including more complex ones) just a few months ago.
